How to Join a Lobby

Quick Answer

To join a friend's Scam With Your Friends lobby, use **Join by code** with the code or **Steam invite link** for their session.

To join a friend's Scam With Your Friends lobby, use Join by code with the code or Steam invite link for their session. To find a public session, use the public lobby browser and its filters. Current lobbies allow one to eight players, and the browser includes My version first sorting.

A lobby invitation is different from the official Discord invitation and from access to the former playtest. You need access to the Steam game and a compatible session with room for you. A code alone does not establish any of those other conditions.

Choose a friend's session or a public lobby

There are two useful starting points. If someone is already hosting for your group, ask for that session's invitation and use the code flow. If you want to play with other people without arranging a specific host, browse the public lobbies.

Joining routeWhat you needWhat to check
Friend's lobbyThe host's code or Steam invite linkCorrect session, current player count, compatible game version
Public lobbyA session listed in the public browserPlayer count, country filter, and version information

Single-player is also supported. You do not have to find a populated public room to play the game, although broadband internet remains a listed requirement.

Join a friend with the supported invitation

  1. Ask the host for the current session's invitation or code.
  2. Open Join by code in the game's multiplayer interface.
  3. Enter the complete code or Steam invite link the host supplied.
  4. Read any validation or loading message before trying the same input again.
  5. Confirm that you reached the intended group once the session opens.

Steam invite links are accepted by this flow following Hotfix 2. That means a Steam link can be the intended input, rather than an error simply because it is longer than a numeric code.

Keep the host and the joining player on the same problem. If the game flags an invalid code, have the host check the invitation being shared. If it reports a different condition, preserve that wording instead of assuming every failed join means the code was typed incorrectly.

The exact layout of every menu is not established here. Use the current game's labels; instructions for another game's Social or Host Settings menu do not describe this Steam release.

Filter public sessions before joining

The public lobby browser has filters for player count and country, plus improved filtering and My version first sorting. Use these controls to narrow the list before choosing a session.

Version sorting is useful when you want to prioritize sessions corresponding to your build. It does not update your game or guarantee that every listed room can accept you. Read the available lobby information and check how many players have already joined.

The country filter is a way to choose among listed sessions. It is not a verified latency measurement, and no specific country or distance guarantees a particular connection quality. Likewise, a room with more players is not automatically a better match for the workday you want to play.

Check capacity separately from the maximum

The supported lobby range is one to eight players, with the limit enforced correctly after Hotfix 2. Check how many players have already joined the session.

If joining fails, the eight-player maximum alone does not explain the failure. Read the exact error and ask the host to confirm the current player count and whether the room can accept another person.

Do not infer a limit from older recordings, the number of desks visible in a screenshot, or a playtest invitation allowance. Those are different observations from the current published lobby range.

Read the voice warning before treating it as a join failure

Launch fixes added a warning before hosting or joining when higher-quality voices are not ready. The warning offers choices to wait or continue. Read the choices shown in your build instead of assuming that an unfinished voice download always blocks multiplayer.

Non-English players are advised to let the Qwen3 text-to-speech download finish on the main menu for higher-quality speech. There is no universal download duration to wait out. A voice-readiness warning also does not prove that the host's invitation is invalid.

Report the point where joining stops

If joining still fails, note whether the game rejected the invitation, failed while connecting, or opened the office before another problem appeared. Include the exact visible message and whether you used the code flow or the public browser.

Updates improved multiplayer reliability during temporary Steam network congestion. That is a specific improvement, not proof of the cause of every current connection failure. Once you have reached the shared office, an AI-service restriction, microphone problem, or caller voice issue should be investigated as its own symptom.
